author J.D. Brown'due south sequel to Dark Heirloom was an exciting read. the writing flowed seamlessly from start to finish and the worldbuilding was as fascinating as always. one of the things which impressed me in the outset book was Ms. Brown's vision of hell. here in Nighttime Liaison, her creative imagination continued to impress me with her version of a vampire hotel and specially that of a vampire prison. i as well got to learn more about vampire history, politics, genealogies and clans as new characters were introduced. cipher was left to chance. every picayune item was well thought of and pregnant to the storyline.
the main protagonist, Ema, learns more about being a Romani-Vampyre. she meets others of her kind, befriends some of them and inadvertently makes enemies of others. her new life is fraught with danger and intrigue that one can experience the tension oozing out of the pages at times.
overall, i enjoyed every give-and-take of this 400-page novel and my jaw literally dropped at the explosive cliff-hanger ending!
i highly recommend this book/serial and i expect forward again to the side by side installment.

Ema is developing int
Book one, Nighttime Heirloom, was a practiced start, one I wanted very much to get through and so I could get deeper into the series. And I'm so glad I did. This was another 1 of those cases of "Never judge a series by the start book!" It's a rule of mine and I'm so glad I followed information technology this time as well. It'south not that Heirloom was bad (information technology wasn't!), but it was her first book, and I knew she was going to grow in leaps and bounds. I just seriously never expected her to grow so well so fast!Ema is developing into an intense, quirky, and slightly mixed upwardly MC that is extremely likable. Does she have some abrasive qualities? Sure, all MCs have at least one, usually a few. She'south young, she's a fleck flighty when it comes to deciding how she feels well-nigh Jesu, although in one case she did she stuck to information technology, which was a skillful thing. She's impulsive, which isn't a skilful quality in a young adult female in the position she'south found herself in, but in that location are enough supporting characters to help her leave of trouble when she gets herself into it that information technology all works out in the end. And so, all in all, she'southward quite likable.
At present Jesu, he's a bit of a difficult MC to immediately like. He's a tad on the weaker side, but I think, for right now, that has more than to practise with his insecurities coming from his feeling lesser than his blood brother, and even than Ema. Vampyres are higher up on the evolutionary chain than Vampires, and he'southward a Vampire while his bro and Ema are both Vampyres. He likewise has issues with how long it took Ema to determine he was the 1 for her, and her reasons backside her reluctance. And and then there's his premonition that leaves her every bit the hero, not him, so it'due south easy to meet why he'd be a little insecure. I think that may alter though as the series progresses. I accept come to similar him, though.
The storyline is exciting. There's Jesu's and Jalmari'south father, Apollyon, a mad Vampyre who is as evil as they come and who wants Ema (reasons to exist discovered when you read it), and volition exercise anything to capture her. He'southward the bad guy of the serial then far, and a nasty i at that. I mean, yuk nasty also as evil nasty! Great adversary! Really, Jen has created some great peripheral characters all the way around.
I'k really enjoying this series so far, and am in a flake of a hurry to get on to Dark Condign, so I'k not going to give anymore of this away. I'm just thoroughly enjoying watching Jennifer go from a newbie author to a more than experienced 1, watching the unabridged journey from her starting time book on, which I have every intention of doing. This, this is my favorite matter near finding new authors (new to me, new to writing, either fashion). Now, Jen has been around for awhile, but I've just now gotten around to reading her piece of work, and I'thousand kicking myself for taking so long!
So Very Well Washed, Jennifer Brown! So Very Well Washed, Indeed! I'm off to Dark Becoming, and all that follow!

This storyline but gets better and more than compelling with each syllable MJ Webb releases with her breathy malaise and passion narrating the amazingly intricate world created by JD Brown. I'k yet flabbergasted as to how someone tin bring together such a circuitous fully working sub-culture of beings and with simply a few cleverly thrown in words brand me, a grown up 47 year erstwhile, question whether there is a gold thread of truth in this book!!!But I digress... This book picks up immediately from the fantabulous book one, Dark Heirloom, and speeds the reader deeper into the world of Vampires, Shape Shifters and other paranormal entities yous never knew might exist. Using historical references makes the story relevant to the reader just too makes the reader experience equally though they own parts of the storyline, in a strange way!
Again for this book MJ Webb creates the almost sensual vocalism for each character. For this book she brings a difficult edged man innocence to Ema Marx whilst the centuries old beings have aged voices that are velvety soft and wrap around the readers and draws them into the scenes playing out in the book, fifty-fifty the ones they shouldn't be getting intimately involved in!
If book i was good and volume 2 was great, I tin't look to encounter what JD Brown does in book three and I definitely can't expect to hear MJ Webb read it to me.
I am loving this series and I'thou sure anyone who loves PNR will love information technology too 20
I received a gratuitous re-create of this audiobook from the author and provide my honest review voluntarily.

Phone call me a hopeless romantic simply FINALLY🔥 I was patiently waiting and waiting. Thank goodness it happened. Merely that cliffhanger 🧗♀️
I can't wait to listen to the side by side one.
I usually practise a mix of listening and reading. I listened to Night heirloom and Dark Liaison. Both read by MJ Webb and aye girl. Equally usual, her accent is on point. She really brings the characters to life, even the males.
She'due south a must watch narrator and I tin can't expect the hear more.
As Ema learns more almost her new reality, she finds she is both completely confused and frightened while also being heroically potent. She will learn to use every character flaw and strength to her advantage so that she can defeat those trying to injure her and those close to her. The question is...who tin can she trust? Who can she depend on to stand beside her?

This second installment of the Ema Marx series is bewitching and enticing. It leaves you wanting more, waiting for book #3.

Good characters, unique plot. The suspense, action and romance is nicely balanced. Well written! I guess I'k only not that into the "angsty-teenager" vibe I'g getting. That's the reason for giving 4 stars, because it is adept, but information technology'south simply not for me - and I would feel bad giving a bad rating simply because, I don't know, I want a more mature heroine? Possibly Ema will probably progress that manner in the series. This is a though one... though I enjoyed it, I'g non certain that this serial is for me.

A pb character who does nothing of note apart from bumble from 1 scene to another.
And a pregnancy added to the mix - highlight (no, definitely not) of the second novel.
I hate to see what meaningless plot this adds upwards to.
Supposed can fly and essence dipersal ( turns to mist - where have I heard that before) just 'dove onto my stomach and scrambled to the ledge' of the loft. Very disappointing.

She flees to Federal republic of germany to try and escape from Apollyon.
Apollyon continues to add supporters to his ground forces while searching for her.
I would have given information technology 5* bar the costless bit of erotica in information technology, non really needed.
I definitely love this series. Original plotline that isn't similar others. Highly recommend starting this series from the beginning, it's so worth it.

5 Collywobbles! Yous can detect my review here : http://shattering-words.blogspot.com/...You lot know that feeling when yous go a skilful bokk in your easily and you don't want to open information technology just yet because you know that crazy rush from reading is going to be as well short and you just want to hang on it?
That was how I was feeling before opening my kindle, that experience of a rush like no other, and I kept getting more than with every folio that I've read until... information technology was over, but let's talk about what you really want to hear, shall we?
But before that, be carerful because there are some spoilers ahead- in the last book we learned that Ema really was THE human being that Jesu had the premonition about. She was the one that could defeat Apollyon, the self-appointed King. But Ema has no fighting experience so how is she supposed to impale Apollyon? That'southward Jesu's job: to train her so she would become the warrior they want, but who really wants for Ema to fulfill her destiny and who are her enemies?
So se is flying to Germany with Jesu then Ema can brainstorm her training sessions and even though Ema has growing feelings for Jesu, she holds dorsum. After all their history and all the danger they are facing, would information technology be wise to start something that could end badly, or even worse destroy their kind?
Only Bridget offers to railroad train Ema and to teach her their history of her kind. That'southward a really good thing considering she can find out more than and in the same fourth dimension she has a pretext to go on her altitude from the object of her animalism...
But what you don't know is the little fact that Bridget is a old flame of Jesu. Don't worry he doesn't dearest her know, merely she wants him back and like that erstwhile proverb keep ypur friends close and your enemies...Well, Ema would acquire that on the hard style when she flat out rejects him and he turns to Bridget, she accepts him. And so Ema sees them kissing so information technology'southward prophylactic to say that she isn't too happy nigh information technology.
With all this drama, we run across some activity when Apollyon comes subsequently Ema with the help of some Zombies and Ema is seen using her powers in public. As her punishement, she must face the German language vampyre King for sentencing. At present, Ema is lonely, without the man she loves, considering know is sure about her feelings and in so much troube that she tin't discover her mode out. What would she do?
While I loved Ema for her courage and fiery nature, I was upset that she couldn't take chances and requite in to her attraction, more thatn that she keept rejecting Jesu, when he plain, wanted a relationship with her...
Final Decision- do you want a book packed with romance AND action, than this ane is for you. It's a book that offers a new version about the origin of the vampires- making them successors of the nephilims kind.
My rating 4,5/5
Ema may be the prophesied one, but a fighter, she is not. Enter Bridget, who befriends Ema as she trains her to protect herself. But does Bridget have her ain agenda? Does information technology have anything to exercise with Jesu? Is in that location anyone who can be trusted to be an ally? What plans do others have for Ema? Will she exist able to survive the final showdown when it comes? With her special gifts, some intense training and a lot of luck, the best odds she gets are 100-i against that happening and she knows it. Simply how long can she safely hide?
No doubt about it! J. D. Brownish can tell a dark and edgy tale with the all-time of the authors. The attention to detail is magnificent; every scene is like a 3D view of her world, and the tension? The tension spikes and spikes and spikes, and our poor trusting Ema continues to be tricked, fooled and abused, both emotionally and physically. Is it making her a stronger individual or is she get-go to crack from the force per unit area of this unfamiliar world? Peradventure she would just similar to go back to what she knows, but surely, in that location is no looking back, now. Too bad the time to come is one big question mark for her.
Like the edgy side of vampyres and supernaturals? Similar a slightly different take on the abilities and powers each association possesses? Desire the reply to: Why vampyres practise not walk in the sunshine? It's all here, all betwixt the covers of some wonderfully intriguing reading.

Today's review is on Nighttime Liaison by J.D. Chocolate-brownEarlier reading Dark Liaison I revisited my review of Dark Heirloom, the first volume in Brown's Ema Marx series. With the reminder of what happened previously I was able to dive correct in to Night Liaison. I had many ideas about what was coming, only I was surprised at how things actually played out.
In the last volume we learned that Ema was the human that Jesu had the premonition about. She was the one that would defeat Apollyon, the cocky-appointed Rex. Simply Ema has no fighting experience so how is she supposed to impale Apollyon? It'south up to Jesu to railroad train her, but his love for her may get in the style.
Fleeing to Deutschland, Jesu and Ema begin their training sessions and fifty-fifty though Ema has growing feelings for Jesu she holds back. Afterward all, through a hundred or then generations they have a mutual family relationship. Simply Ema tin't hold out forever or tin she?
When Bridget offers to train Ema she is excited beyond words. Now she can train and learn about the history of her kind. Plus, she can maintain some altitude between her and Jesu.
Jesu tries time and fourth dimension again to show Ema how much he loves her, merely the mixed signals she sends out drives him crazy. When she flat out rejects him he turns to Bridget, and when Ema sees them kissing she isn't too happy about it.
Apollyon comes after Ema with the aid of some Zombies and Ema is seen using her powers in public. At present she must confront the German vampyre King for sentencing.
Finally, Ema cannot aid but to fall helplessly in love with Jesu even though she thinks that he and Bridget are in dearest with each other. But Jesu sets the record direct. He loves HER and HER only. With his admission comes Ema's. She's in honey with him. FINALLY!!
Night Liaison flowed seamlessly from Night Heirloom adding more than chance and more than drama. Information technology also added in a lot of mistakes that should have been defenseless during the editing phase. I loved the fact that Ema and Jesu are now a couple only I felt that it took a flake to long to get there. Also much time was spent on the constant rejection from Ema. I hateful come on, how many times would you take it? Definitely not that long.
Finally, while others have speculated that Jesu may have suffered the true death I'm confident that he hasn't. He is a major player. He is the hero, and the hero always wins. Tell me I'g correct J.D.
I am a hopeless romantic who loves her vampires, vampyers, ghosts, and werewolves. Besides that, I am vested in this serial. I Take to meet it to the end, mistakes in all. Word of communication though. Please wait into getting a proofreader.

She'south nigh to make more than one connection to her past and they not exactly exist friendly.
When I thought I couldn't fall more in dearest with this unique vampire plot based novel, I did. Dark Liaison takes the beautifully nighttime plotted globe that Chocolate-brown meticulously congenital in Dark Heirloom and sends it spinning out of control. Our brave protagonist Ema is faced with more trials and tribulations in this book than e'er before. Ane of the best things nearly Dark Liaison other than its twisted nighttime plot is the further development of Ema equally a character. She's learning more than most her ancestry, heritage, and futurity with every page. This book honestly in my opinion non only congenital upon the tension and malaise for the master plot of the story, just character growth besides. Ema begins to finally understand her role in this world.
With every plow of the page in this 400 page novel, I found myself more enamored with the world that Brown as masterfully congenital. Information technology'southward dark and scary withal hides merely a chip of romance and happiness underneath the level of dark soot. If you scrape nearly just plenty, y'all can see those moments polish. At present, I know I talked nearly the cliffhangers in the the previous books, but this i literally will knock you out of your chair and go out you lot screaming at your manner of literary enjoyment. Holy shit.. when does the next volume come out!?!!?!?!?

Peachy story coupled with great writing. This is a 400 page book that I read in one twenty-four hour period; one day that flew past before I knew information technology. I read the get-go book of the series and felt much the aforementioned. When I got the second volume, I was hoping it might be every bit skillful but prepared for moderately adept. Now I'm not sure if book 1 (Dark Heirloom)or book 2 is the best. This book could stand on its ain even though it is function of a series, but I think the reader would become much more out of the story if read in guild. This volume picks up where the last one left off. Nosotros see Ema again and she's with constant Jesu. We get to see how their human relationship grows. The trust is not completely there yet, just information technology's growing too. Apollyon is back and worse than always *what a jerk*. Jesu's old love interest, Bridget, enters the story likewise causing some human relationship disharmonize. We too get introduced to the Alpan vampyre association, zombie vampyres, an incubus, and the "old crone" is back too. With this book your become romance, activity and adventure, ancient history and mythology, and a mystery. What's non to love? On elevation of that Ema is a groovy and strong female character. She cares deeply and jumps into situations, just isn't as well daydreaming. She'south stubborn, but not pathologically so. Ema has insecurities, but they don't run her life or paralyze her. They are a working office of her that keeps her grounded. I think she'due south a great role model for women. In fact this book is chocked total of strong women whether as good guys or bad guys.
